For anyone keen to try rock climbing, Urban Climbing is a great starting point. They offer beginner-friendly courses to help you build confidence and improve your skills.
With seven bouldering walls featuring different obstacles like verticals, overhangs, slabs, and caves, there’s plenty to explore and challenge yourself.
When it comes to safety, its climbing walls are all equipped with auto-belay systems, allowing you to ascend and descend without having a partner to assist in managing the rope. Plus, there are safety mats and padding to reduce the risk of injury when climbing down.
As someone who recently got into indoor rock climbing, I loved testing my skills here. My favourite spot has to be the bouldering cave. It’s perfect for practising tricky moves in a controlled space. The setup mimics outdoor climbing, so it’s a great way to experiment and push my limits without the pressure of the great outdoors.
Tip: Don’t skip the sunken meg boulder. It boasts routes up to 11 meters long and a massive prow arete, perfect for honing your climbing techniques.

Beyond Bouldering in Kent Town is South Australia’s largest indoor climbing facility, with over 4,000 climbing holds to keep things exciting. From bouldering walls to main lines and training walls, there’s plenty to tackle.
The best part? The obstacles are reset every week, so there’s always something fresh to conquer!
While they do not have auto-belay systems, they ensure that climbers know how to down-climb. This kind of approach gives climbers confidence and control over the way they descend the walls.
I enrolled my kids here because I wanted them to learn rock climbing in a fun and active environment. The youth climbing area is designed to keep them engaged while helping them stay fit. The instructors are fantastic! They use a structured approach that lets kids build skills at their own pace.
Tip: Head there on Thursdays when they reset the primary climbing routes, offering new challenges to test your abilities.

Beyond Bouldering in Keswick is another fantastic choice for indoor rock climbing. While it’s smaller than the Kent Town location, it boasts taller 4.5-meter walls and three distinct climbing sectors. These sectors are regularly reset, keeping the challenges fresh and exciting.
Just like the one in Kent Town, climbers are encouraged to practice down-climbing, teaching them not to rely on auto-belay systems. Plus, it gives them the confidence to descend on their own, which they can apply in outdoor climbing scenarios.
This is my favourite spot for honing my strength and technique. The moonboard here is a standout feature. It lets me tackle climbing problems created by other climbers. Plus, its adjustable angles are perfect for working on skills at my still-novice level.
Tip: Don’t miss the Kilter Board! You can tweak the angles to match your climbing style and push your limits at your own pace.

Combine indoor rock climbing with rope climbing at Vertical Reality Climbing, a massive 800-square-meter facility. With a 16-meter-high overhanging lead wall and a bouldering cave, it caters to climbers of all levels.
The routes range from grades 3 to 29, making it a fun and challenging spot for both beginners and seasoned climbers.
If it’s your first time, you’re required to complete a belay safety induction for $5.50. It’s important that you know proper climbing techniques and safety protocols before actually climbing their walls.

If you’re looking for a fun, interactive indoor climbing experience, Funtopia Prospect is worth visiting. It has 25 interactive climbing walls that have been turned into a game. You’ll have fun climbing around the walls trying to hit that finish button or reach checkpoints to mark your time.
Safety is very important in this place. They use advanced connectors that allow climbers to ascend only when securely attached to a self-descending mechanism. Plus, you are required to wear closed-toe shoes for proper footing and safety.
I personally love their climbing scenarios, especially the climb through burning buildings. I took the role of a firefighter, and as I ascended, I put out “fires” by reaching specific grips or targets.
Tip: Hungry after climbing? There’s the Mr. Spriggins Café inside, offering specialty coffee and healthy meals. It’s the perfect place to relax and refuel after your climbing sessions.
