If you’re after a spot rich in history and packed with flavour, the Adelaide Central Market is a must-visit. Open since 1869, it’s home to over 80 stalls and blends modern touches with its charming, old-world façade featuring arched windows.
What we love about this place is that you can find fresh produce, baked goods, and specialty foods here. Plus, it’s a culinary destination! We tried popular spots like Lucia’s Pizza and Spaghetti Bar and The Kangaroo Island Stall.
One gem here is Asian Gourmet, a family-run stall that’s been part of the market since the late ’80s. Their laksa is a must-try, with its spicy, salty, and creamy flavours in a hearty broth. The portions are generous, making it the perfect choice for a satisfying meal.

The whole setup feels effortlessly bohemian, with trestle tables, scattered cushions, and rugs creating a relaxed, welcoming vibe.
There are over 120 stalls featuring everything from local makers and vintage finds to some seriously good food. Last time I was there, I stumbled across a stall selling 7 Seconds band t-shirts, including one from their 1985 album Walk Together, Rock Together.

It’s tucked inside the historic Hart’s Mill, where over 40 stalls offer fresh produce, handmade crafts, and more. If you’re looking for a mix of local flavours and creativity, this is the place to be.
For baked goods, I always make a beeline for Bakerhus. Their artisanal bread is fantastic, but it’s their roast chicken pie that keeps me coming back. Packed with tender chicken and seasoned to perfection, it’s comfort food done right.
The market isn’t just about fresh produce and pastries. You’ll also find gourmet food vendors, local coffee roasters, and health-conscious shops.
Tip: Grab the Antipasto pizza sandwich from People’s Piadinas. The combo of meats, olives, and feta makes it a great snack before wandering through the rest of the market.
