I always grab their Maffra Cheddar. It’s creamy and firm and gets that perfect crumbly texture as it ages. The taste is a balanced mix of smooth, tangy, and salty. Honestly, it’s a go-to for any cheese board.

I’ve got a soft spot for their blue cheeses, especially the Roquefort and Stilton. The Roquefort has a salty taste, earthy depth, and a creamy, tangy texture. The Stilton is rich and smooth, with sharp, nutty flavours that are perfect on a cracker.

You’ll find everything from soft and creamy to hard and crumbly, including French brie, Italian pecorino romano, and Spanish Manchego.

I keep coming back for their French brie. It’s rich and creamy, with a velvety rind that wraps around a buttery centre. Sometimes, they even have gourmet twists, like brie infused with fresh truffles. It’s a treat!

Their goat cheese range is a standout, and the artisan buffalo Persian feta earned a Gold Medal at the 2022 International Cheese and Dairy Awards!

They’ve got some great options like saltbush chèvre, anthill, and swag goat cheeses. My pick is the lemon myrtle chèvre. It’s creamy and tangy, with a zesty kick from the lemon myrtle leaves.

I couldn’t resist trying their halloumi, which won Champion Cheese at the 2024 Australian Grand Dairy Awards! It has the perfect saltiness and that classic “squeak.” It’s also great for grilling or frying because it holds its shape and flavour beautifully.

Another great place to shop artisanal cheeses is the Barossa Valley Cheese Company. It’s run by Victoria McClurg, a former winemaker who now handcrafts cheeses using local goat and cow milk.

They’ve got a solid lineup, from feta and halloumi to brie. My pick? La Dame—it’s bold and packed with flavour. It also happens to go down a treat with a sauvignon blanc or a dry riesling.

Blessed Cheese Café is your go-to for both local and international cheeses. Their selection includes Manchego, goat curd, and locally made hard cheeses. The Ploughman’s Platter is a crowd-pleaser, loaded with cheeses, cured meats, olives, and house-made relishes.

If you’re after something more substantial, they do grazing tables and platters packed with cheeses, meats, and fresh local produce. But for me, the standout is their Brie de Meaux. Its sweet, buttery flavour has this earthy mushroom vibe with just a touch of truffle.

For top-notch ricotta, visit La Vera. Since 1984, they’ve been crafting cheese the traditional Italian way. Their ricotta is a crowd favourite—creamy, light, and mildly sweet, perfect for pastas and salads.

They also make mozzarella, parmesan, and mascarpone, but my go-to is the Belmondo Blue. Made from 100% South Australian buffalo milk, it’s creamy with a fruity start and a rich, nutty finish.

Tip: Their parmesan is made with non-animal rennet, so it’s a great pick for vegetarians!

Section28 is a must-visit in Adelaide for cheeses that showcase the Adelaide Hills’ terroir. They use raw milk from local dairies to craft alpine-style cheeses like La Saracca, Monte Rosso, and Tomme du Vallee.

My favourite is the Monforte Grande Reserve. It’s a semi-hard cheese with layers of flavour—starting sweet, then shifting to savoury roasted nuts and earthy undertones.

Tip: Pair your Monforte Grande Reserve cheese with a Granny Smith. The tart crunch pairs perfectly with the richness of the cheese.
